I finally got around to doing some diagnostics on the Perkins 6.354 engine in my 1969 C1800, and I have a nice injection pump that I can borrow to test with the Perkins diagnostic tool.
Before I get too deep into this, I have a few (probably basic) questions I need help with:
1. Is there an external TDC mark on a Dot 1 engine?
2. When you push the throttle, should it hit the governor and stay steady, or should the rpm keep rising until something goes wrong?
3. How do I tell the difference between a Dot 1 and a Dot 2 or Dot 4 (NA) version of the engine? Also, is there a better or simpler IP drive gear/shaft setup to convert a Dot 2/4?
Thanks for any input you can offer - thanks in advance!
